Light fills the cave as the door swings gently open revealing an orchard of trees. More Goblins can be seen in and amongst the trees. They don’t seem to have noticed you yet. I need spot and initiative modifiers pls
Initiative Mod = +8
Spot Mod = +7
You see goblins in the shadow light picking apples from crooked trees. Some are using bags to collect the apples. Some seem more content in stuffing their faces with the deliciously ripe apples and singing some sort of goblin tune understood by some in the group as a drinking song. They do not seem to notice you as you peer through the door to the dimly lit orchard….where was that thief?…
. Piika leads w 15/Nora 14/Metaxis 8
I saunter back to the others and whisper what i saw.
‘wasnt sure if i could see anything beyond the orchard, do you want me to go look again? i have darksight and i could possible sneak around and gather more information.’
i think for a second. ‘or we could just toss that thief in and block the way behind him.’
On the left side is a rough and jagged rock wall. On the right side is cliff drop and open air. The orchard is located on the underside of the outskirts of the maze itself. At the far end of the orchard there is a rough set of makeshift stone stairs leading to a rickety ladder and out of the orchard. It is now Nora’s turn.
“Hmmm,” Nora thought. “We’re not exactly the most physically capable group… If I should cast a spell that only affects one or two of the goblins, the rest will be alerted to our presence, trapped in a doorway across an orchard from our only apparent exit… I could be subtle and turn myself invisible and sneak towards the ladder so as not to draw attention but my spells are most effective when I catch my subjects unaware and it feels like a waste not to use this opportunity…”
Nora pondered this for what felt like a day.
“Something tells me that any attempt for our group to be subtle won’t last long as Taxi is wearing a cloak that screams for attention and our supposed sneak-thief has been drinking since we met. Oh well, may Fenmarel Mestarine not think too poorly of my boldness-we’ll need help from any God who will give it.”
Taking Piika’s place at the head of the party, Nora raises her arms, spreads her hands wide, and unleashes an invisible 30 foot cone of magical power that assails the minds of the creatures within it (Whelming Blast, will save, spell DC 18)
Nora quickly steps back behind Metaxis.
G1:5 fail,G2:9 fail,G3:7 fail,G4:3 fail, G5:12 fail, G6:14 fail. All 6 Goblins take 2d6 dmg 2 + 6 = 8 dmg. The goblins immediately stop singing and fall from the trees with a dull thud. The orchard is now quiet with the bodies of 6 goblins unconcious on the ground. Metaxis’ turn.
Metaxis wonders to himself how his initiative was only 8 when he gets a +8 (jk lol).
Metaxis wonders aloud “well that was effective, however did you get them all?”
How many goblins were/are in the orchard?
Probably cause Razz fucked up. You probably rolled an 8 and should have gone 1st…I’ll make it up to you I promise. There are 6 goblins that you can see and they all unconscious on the ground except for 1 who is unconscious in a tree.
Lol all good. Not to worry just wanted to bug you.
Metaxis looks at Nora: “well done Goblin slayer.”
Noras smiles. “Many thanks, Metaxis!”
“What do you think we should do next? Kill the goblins? Tie them up to interrogate them once they awaken, to see what they know of the maze and its passages? Collect some apples and then see what awaits us up that ladder?”
We’ll Break Initiative now. Please feel free to act at your leisure.
I would suggest we rid ourselves of the goblins. They are stupid creatures mainly used for menial tasks or fodder.
I doubt they would have much to say. However I will go with the majority vote on this matter.
“Not one bit of you is curious as to how a whole goblin community ended up in the Gambit?!?”
Nora rolls her eyes. “If it is decided that we should kill the goblins, let’s collect some of the apples before we spray this place with their blood, we may not be blessed with another magical pig roast for a while.”
I wonder if we shouldnt tie them up, one per tree, and interrogate them. I would volunteer to speak as they may be more talkative to a ‘friendly’ face.
“I don’t believe we have enough rope to tie up all of them, but we certainly have rope to tie up one of them. Didn’t you say you had rope, Metaxis?
“I have many spells that would make the goblin more cooperative; I can even go so far as to disguise myself so that he or she won’t be as hostile. If you would prefer to do the talking Piika, I can surely assist you – I can be very diplomatic.
“Hopefully we can garner some information about the maze. Perhaps learn of what traps we face or what sources of food and water may be available.”
I nod. Perhaps diplomacy would work best. And despite my bravado, I am certain they would sense my disconnect from the darkness where i was born.
“Very well. I suggest that we tell them we will throw one off the cliff until one ‘volunteers’ everything we need to know. Or, maybe just do it anyway, for the value of surprise.”
i instantly feel guilty for how good that thought felt to me.
“I was joking, of course”, i weakly add.
“Joking…. sure,” Nora smiled.
“How about we tie up as many as we can around that one tree over there,” Nora points to a tree with a large, sturdy trunk. “Everyone else you can throw over the cliff at your leisure.”
Nora removes her pack from her shoulders and walks into the orchard. She picks four apples from a tree as she passes and drops them into her pack; it is the most she can carry without making her pack uncomfortably heavy.
Leaving her pack on the ground, Nora approaches one of the prone bodies. “I’m not strong enough to lift any of them but I should be able to drag them. I’m sure you gents wouldn’t mind helping, of course. Metaxis, Piika, Wash (wherever you are), is there anything you can think of to ask the goblins? Any part of the orchard you want to look at before we consider waking them up?”
“I do in fact have 50 feet of rope”
And he hands it to Nora.
“Who speaks Goblin”
At this rate we’ll be lucky to discover the other side of the orchard by 2012
Grumpy DM… To speed things along, are we cool with saying that we managed to tie up three of the Goblins around one of the trees, leaving the other three for Piika and Metaxis to kill as they wish? If we are, then I’ll cast Rouse to walk up the three we’ve kept. I speak Goblin so I can ask the questions and translate.
Lol oh sure make me sound like a murderer haha.
I am good with helping with questions lol.
Sorry to cast aspersions upon you, I figured that as you are imbued with demon blood (or whatever makes Warlocks so Warkocky) you are a big fan of a good ol’ hack and slash. My extreme apologies ;)
Piika – Kill at will!
I reappear after a few moments dragging along some branches, twigs and some shredded cloth ripped from its fellow goblins. i dump them beside the one that i had chosen. he jumps, startled, but he still doesnt look at me.
I get a foot of rope and walk back to to him.
i kneel behind him and work quickly, attaching the various bits to his body. I glance over my shoulder occasionally and when i notice my cohorts have finally looked away, i lean in over the goblin. Pretending to tie a knot, i breathe “Daac an…huukec?”
He gasps. Starts to sweat more now. I continue to whisper to him as i work.
“Yes…huukec, thats right, isnt it? Good. I thought i forgot.”
I tighten the last bit of rope, joining him to his new wings. “So, daac an huukec khuur huukec? Hmm?”
I stand up to admire my work. After a few moments, sensing me away from him, he finally starts to inspect the contraption. i wait for it.
he looks up at me, thinking that he realizes what i had done to him. he slowly turns and doing a humiliated birdlike shuffle, starts towards his tied up mates. i place my staff in his path stopping him and he glares.
i look at him, smile and shake my head, then i look meaningfully at the edge of the cliff.
now he really understands.
“give up? when is a goblin not a goblin? when he’s a chicken, of course”.
his ‘tail’ is the last thing to disappear over the edge as he ‘jumps’.
i think about it as i get some firewood for the next fellow. it wasnt funny in drow either, all those years ago, actually. oh well.
“Piika, I think I may have underestimated you,” Nora says, impressed by Piika’s creative kill.
I must remember to never get on Piika’s bad side…
Nora approaches the captive goblins. Focusing on the one who had the best view of his friend’s flying demise she says in Goblin: “Despite what you’ve just seen, we bear no ill will towards you or your companions and will not harm you if you can answer our questions. If you cannot or will not help us, I cannot promise what my friend,” she looks at Piika, will do. We just arrived here a few days ago, transported here by the wizard Gimble. Did he bring you all here?"
[Not sure which modifiers are applicable: Bluff 7, Diplomacy 11, Gather Information 8]
After i have finished illustrating it for any illiterate captives, I make sure to accidentally drop the scroll open near them and continue rummaging through their possessions, chuckling happily whenever pull out and discover any ingredients.
_Whole suckling pig Goblin (60 lb. average)
1 lb. black pepper
25 to 30 garlic cloves
10 pounds onions
5 lbs. stuffing
3 to 4 c. shortening
4 ft. chicken wire
Needle and string
25 – 30 Chopped apples (optional)
Clean pig goblin and dry. Cut slits in skin and insert garlic cloves. Coat with shortening. Prepare stuffing and combine with cut up onions. Add apples to stuffing, if desired. Pack cavity with stuffing and stitch closed. Wrap pig goblin in chicken wire lengthwise. Coat with garlic powder, rosemary, and salt, and pepper. Insert spit and cook 3 to 5 feet above a bed of coals 6 to 7 hours, turning frequently. Add seasoning often. Meat is done when skin shows deep splits and internal temperature is 160 to 170 degrees. Unwrap wire (which will bring most fat and skin with it) and serve.
Optional: Pig Goblin may also be roasted in covered pit, turning every hour. Keep spit about 2 to 3 feet above coals._
Metaxis hovers around the captive goblins listening to their chatter. Listening for any tidbits of interesting information.
Metaxis looks at the drow. “10 pounds of onions? Where in the 9 hells are we supposed to get that many onions?”
“Or that many cloves of garlic? Sounds delicious, by the way.”
Apparently Drows come prepared for all occasions – interrogations, tortures, stew-making…
Give me listen and spellcraft checks please as incantations from an unknown assailante pours sweet magic into you’re ears…might as well make a will save while you’re at it.
