Welcome to Gimble's Gambit
You had heard of the wizard Gimble before but never believed he actually existed. Part fairytale, part horror story, you hadn’t heard his name since you were a small child sitting around the fire, delighted and terrified at the wonders that existed in the world, just beyond your doorstep.
As soon as you were old enough you set out on your own, determined to have the kind of adventures you had heard of in those childhood stories. You naively believed there would be nothing but travel and glory and excitement; that the world was truly yours for the taking but now, a few years since you’ve left the closest thing you’ve had to a home, the world has proved itself to be a far less wondrous place then you had imagined.
You’d worked and fought for everything you had but could hardly call yourself experienced and accomplished; the scant utterance of a name you had made yourself was worth less than the few coins in your pocket.
When you heard talk that Gimble did indeed exist and that a challenge had been put forth to conquer his maze, you felt the same thrill of excitement and terror that you felt as a child, the excitement that you hadn’t felt in months: that great adventures were out there after all, just over the horizon.
As quickly as you could you packed up your belongings into a pack, taking only what you would need on an adventure. The trinkets you didn’t take with you fell into the pockets of the nearest merchant as you would need as much gold as you could muster to pay for timely and safe passage to Waterdeep, the supposed location of the great wizard.
Despite your abrupt leaving, you would harbor no sad feelings for departing what had become familiar surroundings. You knew deep in your blood that you were born for adventure. Born to travel, fight and explore. And, for reasons not spoken aloud, you also knew you’d already overstayed your welcome. Ever since the “incident” things just hadn’t been the same…
